Dr. Todd BrennanDr. Todd Brennan

Founder

Dr. Brennan brings both an entrepreneurial spirit and deep technical background to his founding role at Bit9. Previously, Dr. Brennan founded Okena (acquired by Cisco in 2003), where he devised new techniques to defend against emerging computing threats. There he was also responsible for creating the company's technical and market vision, assembling the management team, and raising capital. Prior to Okena, he was a research staff member of the Satellite Communications Division at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Earlier, he was a software engineer in the VLSI Advanced Methodology group at Digital Equipment Corp. Dr. Brennan received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, where he won numerous teaching awards. He holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.

Maria CirinoMaria Cirino

Co-Founder and Managing Director, .406 Ventures

Maria brings 22 years of entrepreneurial, operating and senior management sales and marketing experience in venture-backed technology companies, with particular strengths in IT security and technology-driven services. Prior to founding .406, she was Senior Vice President of VeriSign, where she was responsible for setting channel strategy, driving channel development and the sales of VeriSign's security services through its indirect channels. Previously she was CEO and co-founder of Guardent, Inc., an early entrant and leading Managed Security Services (MSS) provider, acquired by VeriSign in February 2004. Cirino has also served as a key member of the executive teams at Shiva Corporation (now Intel Corporation) and i-Cube, Inc. (now Razorfish, Inc.). A frequent industry speaker, Cirino has received numerous industry awards and recognition. In addition to Bit9, Inc., Cirino is a member of the board of directors for Keane (NYSE: KEA), the board of governors for the Entrepreneurs Foundation of New England, the board of trustees for the Massachusetts Software and Internet Council, and is a trustee at Mount Holyoke College. Cirino holds a bachelor of arts in English from Mount Holyoke College.

Jeff FagnanJeff Fagnan

Partner, Atlas Venture

Jeff Fagnan joined Atlas Venture in 2004. He is a Partner in the technology sector, and focuses on emerging companies in enterprise and communications infrastructure as well as advanced material technologies. Before joining Atlas Venture, Fagnan was the head of Seed Capital Partners' Boston office, where he was the lead and founding investor in DataPower Technology, Way Systems, and Polychromix. Prior to that, Fagnan worked at Booz Allen & Hamilton building strategic and operational solutions for communications, media, and technology clients. He was previously with Nortel Networks. Fagnan received an MBA in finance and operations, with distinction, from the University of Rochester and a bachelor's degree in management and mathematics from the University of Alaska.

Paul MaederPaul Maeder

Managing General Partner, Highland Capital Partners

Paul Maeder is focused on helping to build the next generation of market leaders in the cleantech and energy sectors. He has more than thirty-two years of experience in information technology and more than twenty-four years in venture capital. He currently serves on the boards of Amp Resources LLC, Avidyne, Bit9, BlueTarp Financial, Imprivata, Predictive Biosciences, StreamBase Systems, Vertica and Village Ventures. Maeder is a former director of Avid Technology (Nasdaq: AVID), CheckFree (Nasdaq: CKFR), Chipcom, HighGround Systems (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Mainspring (acquired by IBM), Relicore (acquired by Symantec), SCH (acquired by Legato Systems), SQA (acquired by Rational Corporation), Sybase (Nasdaq: SYBS),VistaPrint (Nasdaq: VPRT), and WebLine Communications (acquired by Cisco Systems). Before co-founding Highland, he was a general partner at a Boston-based venture capital partnership where he concentrated on software investments. Prior to entering venture capital, he held operating positions for six years in high-growth technology companies. At Novacor Corporation he managed several projects in the development of an implantable artificial heart. Later, Maeder was responsible for the development of a complex visual field examination instrument at Synemed Corporation where he also headed the company's mechanical engineering and software development. Maeder received a B.S.E. in Aerospace and Mechanical Sciences from Princeton University, an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Patrick MorleyPatrick Morley

President and Chief Executive Officer

Patrick Morley serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Bit9, Inc. Mr. Morley is an industry veteran with a well-proven track record of driving companies large and small to revenue growth and market leadership. Throughout his career, he has distinguished himself as an executive dedicated to guiding organizations to success, specializing in building and accelerating the growth of small companies into industry-leading enterprises. Serving in senior leadership roles, Mr. Morley has worked on six venture-backed software companies and three successful IPO's. Morley most recently served as Chief Operating Officer of Corel, where he led the company's global sales, marketing, and operations functions for the Americas, EMEA, and Asia. He joined Corel in 2005, playing a significant leadership role in the company's turnaround, acquisition strategy and eventual IPO. Throughout his tenure at Corel, Morley established partnerships with a vast network of IT manufacturers, retailers and resellers, relationships he continues to leverage in his ongoing management roles. Prior to Corel, Morley served as Chief Executive Officer of Massachusetts-based security company Imprivata Corporation, where he led the company from initial funding to its first product and its very first customer-win. By the time Morley left Imprivata, the company had more than 100 customers and over $10 million in revenue. As the Vice President of the Americas at Allaire Corporation, Morley grew the revenue of the company from $1M to over $100M in four years. Morley has also held management positions at Macromedia, Rational Software, SQA and IBM. He received a B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Providence College.

Ron NordinRon Nordin

Ron Nordin is a leading executive in the software industry and serves as an advisor and board member to early stage technology companies, including Bit9, Awareness, and Embotics. Most recently Ron was a Senior Partner at Atlas Venture in Boston. He invested in a number of software and internet companies, including eRoom Technologies, which was acquired by Documentum in 2000 in one of the largest private software transactions of the year. Prior to Atlas, he was President and CEO of SQA Inc, a venture backed, enterprise software company. He led SQA from a start up to become a dominant player in the software quality assurance sector. Under his leadership, SQA had a successful IPO and became a highly valued public company. SQA was acquired by Rational Software , which in turn was acquired by IBM. Ron established his early career at Cognos, where he a was Senior Vice President serving on the executive team that developed the company from a start up, through an IPO to become one of the major players in the software industry.

Ted SchleinTed Schlein

Partner, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers

Ted Schlein joined Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers in November 1996. His focus has been in the area of enterprise security and applications, infrastructure and services. Ted managed the KPCB Java Fund, formed to invest in Java technology-based companies and related Internet, Intranet, networking and communications companies. He serves on the board of 3VR, 41st Parameter, ArcSight, Fortify Software, IronPlanet, Ketera Technologies, Oakley Networks, Verdiem and oversees the company's interests in Bit9 and LifeLock. Ted is the Chairman of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) and is the former President of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists (WAVC). Additionally, Ted serves on the Board of Overseers for the University of Pennsylvania, School of Engineering and Applied Science. Ted came to KPCB with significant experience in enterprise software business management at Symantec Corporation. As Vice President of Networking and Client Server Technology, he was responsible for overseeing the marketing and development of enterprise products. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Symantec's European business development and as Vice President of Symantec's Data Management Group. Mr. Schlein is credited with establishing Symantec in both the utilities and antivirus markets by starting and building these business units. He holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
