About Bit9
Company Overview
Bit9, Inc. is the leading provider of application control and device control solutions to achieve flexible Windows desktop lockdown and business-friendly whitelisting. Our cornerstone application control and device control product, Parity, is the only solution to detect, identify, and approve or ban applications -- without relying on malware signatures or behavioral patterns.
Bit9 was founded in 2002 by Dr. Todd Brennan, Dr. Allen Hillery, and John Hanratty. Previously, Drs. Brennan and Hillery founded Okena, which was acquired by Cisco Systems. John Hanratty was on the founding teams of Synernetics (acquired by 3Com), and Agile Networks (acquired by Lucent).
In July 2003, Bit9 was awarded a prestigious $2M federal research grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology-Advanced Technology Program (NIST ATP). The company raised $6 million in December 2004 from Atlas Venture and Highland Capital, $9.8 million from these investors and Kleiner Perkins in June 2006, and $10 million from those investors and .406 Ventures in September 2007. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Bit9 is a privately held company.
